In 1986 Rye Watersports was set up to run windsurfing lessons and dinghy sailing courses. This large coastal lake on the Kent and Sussex border was the perfect location. Constant winds blow straight off the sea, or from the vast expanse of the Romney Marshes.  It soon became known as the premier windsurfing and sailing school in Southern England.  The water area is roughly seventy acres and good in any wind direction.  The access to the water is gently shelving which gives great confidence to beginners.

In 2003 Maggie (the centre founder) and her son-in-law George, a senior BKSA kite instructor, established Rye Watersports Kitesurf School. Camber Sands is the main teaching beach, whilst  kitesurfing lessons in Kent are run at Greatstone.  These are two of the top kitesurfing beaches in the UK.

The Centre is only one hour from South London, in an idyllic situation near Camber Sands. The Kent and Sussex coast for sea based kitesurfing and windsurfing lessons is only minutes away.

Rye Watersposrts is easily accessible if you live in Kent, Sussex, Surrey or London as the centre is easy to reach by road, or rail. If live further afield why not turn your lesson into a holiday, and stay in this glorious part of Kent and Sussex.

Kitesurfing and Windsurfing on the South Coast offers varied conditions, but the shallow waters at Camber Sands and Greatstone provide perfect conditions for lessons whether you’re a beginner or expert. Our dinghy sailing school is always lake based, where sailing skills can be learnt in safe flat waters.

Informal and friendly, our centre is the hub of all our activities. After your lesson chill out on the decking with refreshments from ‘Windy Daze Café’.  Enjoy our yummy home made cakes and coffee made from freshly ground beans.  We are always on hand to give tips and advice at the end of the day.

‘With the golden beaches of Camber Sands only minutes away, our beautiful lake location, and the Medieval town of Rye nearby, we feel we have everything to offer.’

Rye Watersports is AALA certified authorising us to give kitesurfing, windsurfing and sailing lessons to children under eighteen years of age.
