Rye Watersports is a Royal Yachting Association Dinghy Sailing School offering a wide range of courses for beginners to advanced pupils. Dinghy sailing lessons on the South East Coast can be daunting with tide and waves to contend with, but our our coastal lake midway between Rye and Camber Sands is ideal for your first introduction to dinghy sailing through to advanced sailing in strong winds.
Southerly winds funnel in over the Kent and Sussex shore to create constant sea breezes that make learning to dinghy sail fun. Added to this our experienced RYA instructors will build your confidence and teach you all the skills necessary to get sailing.
Our fleet of Laser Pico’s and Laser Bahia are the perfect boats to progress from beginner to confident sailor in. Because we are only one hour from South London and easy to get to from Surrey via the M.25, dingy sailing lessons by the sea are accessible to anyone living in the home counties.
Sailing is one of the best ways to relax and unwind. There is enormous fun in getting to the stage where you can helm a boat in a brisk wind, feel it heeling and have the spray whipped up around you. Or if you just want to sail effortlessly in a light breeze you’ll achieve that after your first lesson.
One of the things that makes our centre so popular with dinghy sailors is that you don’t have to be a club member to sail here. We do offer membership but if you want to come and put your own boat on the water you just pay a launch fee and go! Parking is right next to the water’s edge so it is easy to launch your boat with no restriction on ‘time on the water’ during our opening hours. We are a really chilled out sailing centre in a truly amazing position only a quarter of a mile from the sea on the South East Coast. You can hire dinghies by the hour, bring your own sailing boat, or have a lesson … the choice is yours.
There are no dinghy sailing schools in London, or in the counties of Surrey and Kent with conditions that can compare with this beautiful area of water for learning to dinghy sail. If you live further afield it’s well worth the trip, or why not stay overnight in one of the great little hotels in Rye, East Sussex. The international railway station at Ashford Kent is only twenty minutes away with a connection to Rye at regular intervals.
After your sailing lesson our lake-side centre is perfect for the debrief; chilling out on the decking drinking a beer or enjoying a cappuccino, whilst watching the sun set over the lake and the medieval town of Rye.
